Developing players and teams

We’re a relatively small club with limited time and space, but we aim to cater for all our members:

  • Developing individual players (from beginner to regional league, from juniors to over-50s)
  • Developing teams (especially when a match or event is approaching)
  • Indoor in winter, outdoor in summer
  • Leagues, cups and tournaments.

During the indoor season (September to April) we provided a training rota for each team or group during our weekly 3-hour club sessions, which were attended by a total of 62 players.  Catering for so many different groups makes for a crowded match and training schedule, but we aim to achieve a fair share of training time for our teams and players:

The seniors didn’t win any trophies this season, however lots of players improved and our teams maintained a very respectable level:

  • 10-year old Kaspar won the SW U-13 boys league and grand prix.

  • Oriele was selected for the SW U-14 girls team to play in the national championships.

  • Aces lacked consistency in attendance and performance, and slipped outside the top 2.

  • Newly promoted yet inexperienced Bees fought hard and improved, but failed to win a game.

  • SWL women were disrupted by injuries but brought in 2 juniors and maintained their level.

  • Wilts women and junior team improved with every round and had a great time.

    Summer 2013

  • Weekly grass sessions (playing for fun) at Lydiard Park – starting May – organised by Phil.

  • Sand sessions (playing for fun) at Coate Water – organised by Irwin / Jorg.

  • Whitefield Tournament, Bath (grass), 19-20 July – Phil entered 1 women’s team and 1 mixed team.

  • Other sand and grass tournaments – local and nationwide – Irwin has list – just form a team and enter!

    Indoor season 2014-15

  • Indoor training will start Sunday 31st August or 7th September – see club website for announcements.

  • We are considering increasing our training time to 4 hours a week – see consultation document.
