3 Feb 2008 - A's Into Semis of Cup

The A team are through to the Semi-Finals of the Dave Kinder Cup after a 3:0 victory over Salisbury Druids.

25 Feb 2008 - Mavericks Women win 2 from 2

The Mavericks Women travelled to Warwick and came away with two wins.  Cinzia one of our players was in the squad.  Well done Mavericks!

13 Jan 2008 - A's Resurgent

The A team reversed their recent defeat with a 2:1 win against Aquae Sulis.

The Famous Bassett Bees slunk off into a corner after their match with Aquae Sulis B.

Several events conspired to help us mismanage the event and snatch defeat from a probable victory.  Our coach, the man with the bag of balls, had his car blocked in by a school mini-bus and was delayed by an hour.  We borrowed some balls to warm up with.  We succeeded in getting our own rotation wrong for the first set.  This cost us a few points at the start of the set getting used to being in the wrong positions and we eventually lost the set.  In the second set we corrected the roation, played without distraction and won it.  Amazingly in the third set we managed to get the rotation wrong again.  Again this cost us several points getting used to it and we were penalized for a positioning error.  Those points probably would have been enough to win the set, but we lost it.  On the plus side, when we were playing, we played very well.

09 Dec 2007 - Bees Back on Top

The Famous Bassett Bees won 2:1 at home against Aquea Sulis B.  We took the first and third sets, but stuttered in the second.  In the premier division match Bassett A lost 2:1 against Aquae Sulis A by the same score 2:1.

06 Dec 2007 - Bees Lose in Salisbury

The Famous Bassett Bees made their final long pilgrimage of the season to Five Rivers.  We lost 3:0 against the team that came down from the Premier division last season.  Despite the 3:0 result there was lots to be pleased about.  We pushed them very hard in both the first and the third sets - getting in to the 20's against them. On another day we might have won that one.

03 Dec 2007 - Bassett 'A' Required to Work Against Olympiad

Bassett A played Olympiad away.  They won 3:0 but every set was hard fought.  From memory (thanks Irwin) 27:25,  25:16,  25:23.

02 Dec Nov 2007 - Bassett 'A' through to Second Round of DK Cup

Bassett A travelled to, well Wootton Bassett, to play the Bees in the Dave Kinder Cup.  We didn't give them an easy time, but they were still too strong for us.  No prizes for guessing which team this editor plays for.

30 Nov 2007 - Bassett 'A' back on track

Bassett A travelled to Lacock to play Calne and returned with a convincing 3:0 win.  On Sunday the A team meets the Bees for a Dave Kinder Cup match. Surprisingly, both teams are at home.

25 Nov 2007 (Evening) - Bassett Bees win 'A' team stumbles

The Bees pulled off a very satisfying 2:1 win over strong opposition from Devizes.  After conceding a very tightly contested first set the Bees regrouped and perfomed strongly in the last two sets.  The A team were weakend by injury and players unavailable adn went down 1:2 to Devizes A.

25 Nov 2007 (Afternoon) - Bassett Ladies Continue Club's Clean Sheet

After today's Ladies/Junior event in Bath all three Bassett Teams are unbeaten without conceding a set.  More news on the Lades/Juniors page. This evening the A team meets Devizes A, and the Bees meet Devizes B.  Both matches at home.

22 Nov 2007 - The Famous Bassett Bees Retain a Clean Sheet

The Bees travelled to Salisbury to play Salisbury Pagans and recorded their second clean sheet of the season.  This time we featured a first time outing for Dani (thanks Dani - a great contribution) and we even saw Irwin playing through the middle.  He coped quite well with the foreign positioning and he only forgot where he should stand a couple of times.  Thanks to Davide and Pierina (Cinz's mum) for the support and the Mexican wave!

A great continuation to the season - we look forward to Devizes on Sunday.  Bring it on!

04 Nov 2007 - Bassett Open the Season with a Double Win and a Clean Sheet.

The Bees went on first to win 3:0 against Calne Mets.  Featuring first time outings for Kathryn and Robin.  The A team were on second to record a win against Melksham ACCSU also 3:0.  Featuring first time outings for Bart, Davide and Robin again.  A great start to the season.

22 Sep 2007 - Westbury Wasps VC collapse

Sad news - that Westbury VC has collapsed and will not be fielding teams in the Wiltshire Leagues this season.  Winners of the league last year, Westbury have always been strong opponents.  We will miss the opportunity to test ourselves against one of the strongest teams in the county.

It's also sad to see two teams lost from the leagues and that fewer people will be enjoying Volleyball this year.

22 Sep 2007 - A team win Pre-Season tournament

The 'A' team were unbeaten in the pre-season tournament at the Christie-Miller Sports Centre Melksham.  The B team were narrowly defeated in the Plate competition coming second to Intel.  In the match against Intel we lost by one point, the final rally of the match.  Reversing that would have given us the competition.  Congratulations to Intel.  New entrants to the Wiltshire Volleyball scene and worthy winners.
