Ladies and Gents
Firstly let me apologise for hi-jacking this distribution list, naughty of me but hey . . . . :o)
I am the secretary for the Salisbury Volleyball Club, one of my aims this year is to grow the reputation of the club to entice new members and to increase awareness of our up and coming outdoor tournament. To that end I have been arranging lots of things through the year to help raise our profile, locally and throughout the region.
We have decided to host a Sitting Volleyball try out day. We've spoken to the local council and they have really got behind us. Through their support we have a venue (DDA compliant) to host the first Sitting Volleyball session. The council have funded the cost of the hall, and with the help of Matthew Rogers (VE) we have produced the attached poster to advertise our event.
This variation of our much loved sport is awesome as it is literally open to both able and disabled players on the same/opposite teams and they don't have to be put into separate competitions. Now how often have you heard that!
The try out day is FREE OF CHARGE to all entrants so it is now down to me and a few other enthusiastic members to start spreading the word and ask people if they'd be interested in giving it a go.
To that end, can I ask that you all circulate to your clubs and other interested bodies in your area, perhaps you know of a disabled group near you that would like to try their hand.
We are hopeful that one of the GB squad will be available on the day, although the team are due to travel to Hamburg that weekend so this is yet to be confirmed.
It really would be fantastic if the Association could get behind us on this and come along to support me. If I can gauge how many will be attending I will try and work on a local company to provide refreshments for the morning by way of support and sponsorship.
In addition, can I take the opportunity to direct you to our club website www.salisburyvolleyball.co.uk on there you will find all the relevant information about our weekend tournament coming up in July. We're growing steadily each year but the more clubs we can tell the more chance there is of growing even more.
Please have a look and try and come to both events if you can - we're a whole bundle of fun in Salisbury, promise.
Lynsay
Cheers,
- Richard
